Exactly the kind of stuff I'm hungry for on Substack, Gary.

Not in the industry, just one of the guys you were trying to sell to who used to cram a nymph pouch, dry fly box, bottle of Gink and a fingernail clipper into the pocket in my waders and didn't need anything you were trying to sell me. And poled my dad across the flats around north Key Largo as a kid without caring if I got a shot at a bonefish myself that day.

Because I didn't really care whether or how many fish I caught. It was the 1970s and 1980s and things were different in the Smoky and Blue Ridge mtns and in the FL Keys.

Dad was close friends with the Moret brothers, and had the chance to meet Flip, Chico and even Ted Williams through Randy and Sandy the latter one of the founders of FKO in Islamorada). These were my idols as a kid, and I was building my own 9 weight rods from Fenwick fiberglass blanks when I was 13 to try to be like them.

Trying to write short stories about my life in the outdoors (bird hunting/fly fishing) that aren't really about the fishing or the hunting. Name of my 'Stack comes from a Cree word. Totemtik means all my relations, human and other.

Just hit the subscribe button and know I'm going to enjoy your work, simply for the nature of why you're writing it. Kudos.

I read this entire article in a noisy bar. Didn’t look up once. Thank you.
